I have received the following email from Google. I've tried to find out if / why I have domaine name that I don't recall having set up. I'm afraid that if I don't get it straightened out I may lose my bloodspot. My blog address is: www.mps2343.blogspot.com. I tried the domaine Google mentioned in the email: www.mps2343.com and it brings up my latest blog post.
I've tried to get through to Google by clicking on the "turning auto renewal ON," but it doesn't take me anywhere where I can renew, or find out anything about this renewal.
Can anybody help me out with this? I don't want to have them turn something OFF that prevents me from future posting.

Google got back to me . . . Vladimir (in Bulgaria) called and I renewed my domaine name. But, I actually think it's not mandatory. oh well, for now all is okay! Hope all is well with you, too.
DeleteInteresting that it won't let you click on auto renewal... I use Google but don't recall ever seeing this. I know this isn't any help but I... ask Rick at http://rickpaulettervjournal.blogspot.com/ ... he's an expert on this stuff. I think he has an email address on his blog. He's very helpful.

Try going to: whois.net and do a search on mps2343.com
ReplyDeleteThis will show you that "eNom" (enom.com) registered the name. You may have got that name "purchased" for you when you entered into some agreement with a software company, with google, or something like that. You are not and have not been using it...since it is not setup for "auto pay" you can just forget it and it will eventually go away.

Well, after about an hour on the phone with Vladimir in Bulgaria, representing Google, I paid the $10 for a year's subscription for the domaine name. Now I need to sort out how to get out of it. Vladimir, who's not familiar with blogger, is positive that I have to pay it each year. Since I'm the only bloodspot.com blogger who has to pay I know it's in error. But, he said my blog would go away if I didn't renew so I did - for now! I'm going to contact Enom.com when I have a minute - right now friends are coming to pick me up for dinner. Más trade, amigo.
DeleteFree "Blogger" is with the blogger name in the url, such as: "goingrvway.blogspot.com" like ours is. We ALSO purchased the name "GoingRvWay.com" (and GoingRvWay.org too by the way) which transfer the person to the blogger address of goingrvway.blogspot.com I did this to give me more flexibility in the future, if needed, AND because it is easier to remember and advertise GoingRvWay.com than the blogger blogspot address. I got our service for 3 years through GoDaddy.com only because they seemed to be offering the best price and their service includes email too (dave "at" goingrvway.com will forward to my yahoo email). I cannot say that because you don't have a blogger address now that you can't go back to a blogger address in the future. But $10 is not that bad of a deal, and you "can" download all of your blog and move it over to a different blogger address OR to wordpress fairly easy.
DeleteI just sent you an email explaining what I think is going on and with a number to contact eNom who are the company that registered the domain name allegedly on your behalf. In the meantime, I would definitely make a complete backup of both your template and your blog just in case.
