For people in the Amarillo area .... Lincoln wandered off when I momentarily dropped his leash while we were walking in the RV park. He has lots of identification re: phone numbers, email and implanted chip identification with number to call. I'm still looking for him ....
Lincoln:
Have you called the Animal Shelter or Animal Control?
ReplyDeleteYes, but they don't answer until tomorrow. So, I continue to look and call and show his photo to people here in the park.
DeleteHope and pray that Lincoln will show up. I know how difficult it can be when traveling with our fur kids...god's blessings shine down on you all.
ReplyDeleteI always try to remember what Rose Kennedy answered when a journalist asked, "How do you cope with all the sadness in your life?" "Oh, but think of the happiness I've had!" That's how I feel. Losing my pets is very traumatic for me but I'd not change having had them.
DeleteThinking of you and hoping your find Lincoln soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks cheryl. I know all the animal-lover followers have their fingers crossed. Lacy and Eleanor are acting strangely; I think they sense something's wrong.
DeleteMy sister went over there this morning with a flashlight and looked for him. No luck. She said it is cold and maybe he will find his way back. (She is a big animal lover!) Good luck!
ReplyDeleteYou are both so kind. I've left messages at the shelters, but I have my doubts that he's there because he had so much ID I would think whomever found him would just have called or emailed me. But, hope doesn't die!
DeleteI'm so sorry he's missing. I can only hope someone has him inside - warm and snuggly - and is looking for YOU. If I found a dog like that, I'd be walking him all over the place hoping to find his owner. Maybe that's what's happening and you'll see them. That's my hope and prayer for you and Lincoln. Keep the faith. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much.Everyone who meets and gets to know him loves him.
DeleteMary-Pat - I found this online and you might try some of the tips outlined...

Thanks, Cheryl:
ReplyDeleteIt looks like I've done fairly well re: their advice; except that I didn't miss him until he'd been gone about 4 hours. I did go out that evening but had no luck. I'm walking around the park several times a day telling people about him and calling. As I mentioned above I'v left messages at shelters but no human answers the phone on the weekends; and the Human Society here isn't open on Monday either; but the other shelters are.
Ohh so sorry, just read you post. I am praying that Lincoln will turn up. Meanwhile...hugs.
ReplyDeleteThanks - yeah I'm still praying too.
Deletewell, shoot... hate to come over and read this, Mary-Pat! I placed my cat on the picnic table in her carrier. She unzipped it! while I was unloading my outdoor stuff.
ReplyDeleteI saw her... called to her she found a great plant by the water ... right in front Homer (my van) ... I thought she was still there.
I got out her food and water and put it on the picnic table... I never found her again. I guess I shouldn't relate this ... but it's just amazing! that happened.... she always came back if she wandered off a bit... I had her for 10 years...
I had the Rangers and other campers look for her ... it was at Smokey Mountain National Park ... I don't do remote camping but it was by a stream... I don't know. I stayed an extra four days.
Just broke my heart. The consensus was that someone grabbed her. I just hope they loved her.... sniff and freakin bawl!
I do hope Lincoln will be found ... he's beautiful. Traveling with pets is really something sometimes... sending hopeful vibes....
Hi Carolyn:
DeleteThanks for your concern and you personal experience. Yeah, cats are notorious wanderers; and, as my son just said on the phone this evening, they just often don't last as long as a dog because they do wander. However, he also said they have better survival skills and I guess that's why I keep calling for Lincoln. Maybe he'll hear me and come sauntering back. I'm paid here until Tuesday so I'm not sure what I'll do if I don't find him by then. i just remembered that tomorrow is a holiday and the shelters may not be open.
I think it is unlikely that he has been 'stolen'. People can easily adopt cats from shelters, and garden-variety cats are not valuable. I think it is more likely that he has gotten stuck somewhere or hurt while dragging the leash. Can you walk a lot farther from the RV park into surrounding areas, calling his name? I hope you won't give up and leave!
ReplyDeleteI will continue to walk and call him today; the area around the RV park is mainly open fields and I-40 and I-40Bus. I'm waiting for shelters to open too.
DeleteThe reason I've considered he might be stolen is because of his friendly and dog-like personality. He even does some trick-like behaviors.
DeleteDid you check under your bus especially on top of the rear suspension. That is a very good sitting and protective place for cat. Because you said your other pets acted strangely, this could be a clue because they can smell through the sheet metal of your bus.
ReplyDeleteYou might even have to slide your body under the bus to get a good view.

Hi Tom:
DeleteYes, that's the first place I look every time because he does like to sit on the drive axle (I think it's called). He's always 'waited' there when he wants to come back in.
So sorry to read this Mary-Pat....is your dog good at following scents?
ReplyDeleteI really feel badly for you and am hoping the best.....
